Since Barbara and Jim purchased the 17 acres of land at the top of Spring Mountain in 1983, our goal has never shifted–creating a winery that feels like home. By 1992, that dream was fully realized when Barbara and Jim finished construction of their home inside the Paloma vineyard.

Today, their son Sheldon owns, operates, and lives at the winery, hosting tasting events in the living and dining of the family home. For 40 years, Paloma Vineyard has been a family-operated business and we have always treated our customers like they are part of our family. Read on to learn about what sets our tasting room apart.

Paloma’s Tasting Room: Personal & Private

Our owner and winemaker, Sheldon Richards, hosts every private wine tasting in his on-site home for a full hour. It’s small, intimate, and we make each tasting unique–we know everyone is looking for something a bit different and we curtail the experience to you.

As you can imagine, our tasting room is a far cry from the corporate feel of most wineries. Instead of an open area jam-packed with other customers, we take a private, 1-on-1 approach to all tastings. Most wineries have hosts who aren’t involved in the winemaking process, that may only have limited, second-hand knowledge, and are mostly focused on sales. At Paloma, you get first-hand access to the owner and winemaker himself.

Arriving at our tasting room is like visiting the home of an old friend. It’s casual and unpretentious–we’re here to get to know you, introduce our award-winning wines, tell the Paloma story, and create a memorable experience.

When you visit us for a wine-tasting experience, you’ll enter through the home’s main entrance, and pass by the living room before entering the dining room or venturing out onto the deck. Our dining area is warm and inviting. It is filled with antique furniture and art collected by the family over many decades.

While the majority of our tastings are 1-on-1 private experiences, we will be offering a more casual option on our deck for the last couple hours on the weekends (Thursday-Saturday) starting in early June.

Paloma’s Scenic Outdoor Space

Our outdoor deck is a welcoming space for our guests to enjoy after a wine tasting. It offers an incredible view overlooking the Napa Valley from the peak of Spring Mountain, where you will be greeted by our family of hundreds of hummingbirds.

We welcome all visitors to bring lunch or snacks and enjoy a meal with a bottle of wine before or after your tasting (please be sure to reach out to us directly to make sure we have availability!). Our deck has a small selection of outdoor tables and chairs to ensure a quiet, intimate experience, as well as picnic tables around the property for your to enjoy your meal should you choose to bring one. After relaxing on the deck, you can walk through the property above the vineyard and explore the different views.

Before or after your visit with us, we recommend you stop at these other incredible Spring Mountain Wineries:
