Sipping in Style: Inside the Tasting Room of Paloma Vineyard

January 14, 2025

Have you ever been to a tasting where all you hear is the sound of the birds, wind, and the winemaker talking? No?! Then you haven’t visited Paloma Vineyard. Our personal team of furry greeters will meet you at your car and escort you up our steps to the owner’s home, our tasting room, where you will meet the owner, Sheldon Richards, and tasting room guru, Laura Kasser, both ready with friendly wine tasting advice. They will lead you through our estate-grown and bottled wines. Whether you are a bay area local or coming from farther away, the calming view at our estate vineyard persuades almost everyone to pause and be present with just the wine in front of them. Take a relaxing break and drive up Spring Mountain to experience the magical atmosphere above the clouds. Whether you prefer to be inside or out, we have options for all.

Indoor Tasting Room

Our tasting room table, aka the Richards family dining room table, is over 90 years old. Originally from Canada, it has hosted thousands of people over its history, including the thirty years of Paloma tastings. Our tasting room walls are filled with artwork collected from two generations of art lovers. It includes pieces from travels all over the world. It makes for an animated discussion and tasting experience with the winemaker. This private experience offers a unique opportunity for guests to share in this experience while enjoying our award-winning world-class wines. We sincerely enjoy hearing their stories in return.

Outdoor Tasting Area

The serene outdoor area overlooks our terraced vineyard, the rest of Spring Mountain, and the Napa Valley, all the way across to Howell Mountain on the east side. With our floral mountain Merlot in your glass, you will enjoy the gentle buzz of hummingbirds, light seasonal breeze, the sounds of doves, finches, and various native birds, and our vineyard Golden Retrievers checking in on you. As you sip and take in the view, you will feel the charm and peacefulness that surrounds you.

Do you make any other wines besides Merlot?

Yes, we make a pure Cabernet Sauvignon, a Cabernet Franc, a Cuvée blend called Ode to Barbara, and we made lovely Syrah for about 10 years that makes appearances in the wine club library wines every so often. Learn more here!

Merlot has captivated wine enthusiasts for over two centuries with its smooth texture, rich flavors, and remarkable versatility. As one of the most widely planted grape varietals in the world, Merlot holds a prominent place on dinner tables and in wine cellars from Bordeaux to Napa Valley. But what makes Merlot so special? The answer lies in the grape’s adaptability, the care that goes into its cultivation, and the sense of place reflected in every bottle.
